Alligators

This is a fun and easy project to get started. All you need is a few pounds of ShapeCrete, an alligator shaped mold, and some green pigment. If you don't have green pigment, you can always paint the alligators later.

Before mixing, spray some form release in the mold. It's not necessary, but if the mold has been used a few times, it will make it easier to release the piece. Check out the Form Release Video for some tips.

STEP 1: Add Green Pigment

Watch our video to learn more about how to color ShapeCrete with pigment. Add the dry pigment to the dry mix and blend. Make sure to break up any clumps of pigment until the powder is a uniform color.

STEP 2: Add Water and Mix

Gradually add water until the mix reaches a fluid consistency. Follow the tips in the Casting Mix Consistency to get the best results.

STEP 3: Pour

Add some of the mix to a disposable cup to make it easier to pour. Fill the molds and then shake then side to side and up and down to help any air bubbles come to the surface and to level the mix out. Cover the pieces with plastic and let them cure for 24 hours.

STEP 4: Demold and Finish

Simply flip the mold over, gently pry the plastic away, and the piece will drop out.

Any rough edges can be sanded down with sandpaper. The longer you wait, the harder the piece becomes, so it's good to do some rough sanding right away.
